A gift-list platform built around a 50-year-old business

By Measured 4 September 2026

A free wedding gift-list service run by a family furniture retailer trading since 1972. We built the list-creation, list-finding and gifting journey as a custom platform rather than bolting it onto a shop.

What this engagement was. A custom build plus an ongoing retainer. This study is about what was built and how it performs; no search or revenue claim is made for it. How every figure here is measured.

The problem

What we were up against.

A wedding gift list is an unusual piece of software: two audiences who never meet, using the same data for opposite reasons. The couple builds and edits a list; dozens of guests then find it, buy from it, and must never see the same item bought twice. Off-the-shelf e-commerce does not model that.

The work

What I actually did.

  1. Designed the journey around the two jobs people actually arrive to do — create a list, or find someone else's — and put both on the homepage.
  2. Built the list and gifting flow as a custom system so stock, reservations and guest privacy behave correctly.
  3. Gave the design the warmth the brand earned over fifty years of trading, rather than a generic retail template.
  4. Kept it fast and stable: zero layout shift on an image-heavy, photography-led page.

The outcome

A gift-list service that behaves like a product rather than a bolt-on, on a page that loads cleanly and holds still while it does.
